Our first Symposium event

We held our first charity fund raising yoga symposium on the 27th of October and were very fortunate to have the hugely knowledgeable Dr Ben Major and Jo Bertzeletos from Yoga Nature delivering an excellent introduction to the Yoga Sutras for us.

Our first yoga symposium on the 27th of October and were very fortunate to have the hugely knowledgeable Dr Ben Major and Jo Bertzeletos from Yoga Nature delivering an excellent introduction to the Yoga Sutras for us. The group gathered at the Reach and after eating some scrummy energy balls and quaffing chai, we started the evening with some soulful kirtan led by Ben and then we were walked through the sutras at a congestible pace. Ben and Jo certainly know their stuff and made the explanation of the yoga sutra text very simple and easy to understand. The discussion after Ben’s presentation was lively and informative with contributions from virtually everyone who attended.  There was lots of debate and deliberation and it was so nice to hear different opinions, points of view and people asking questions.

It’s going to be a hard act to follow but I am delighted that Hamish Hendry and Mikel Burley will be leading the new symposium on 'Keeping yoga real’ - How can we keep the spirit of yoga real in today’s world on the 24th November from 18:30.Mikel is an academic from Leeds who has published books about yoga and Hamish is the UK’s most highly qualified and experienced ashtanga teacher, certified by Pattabhi Jois. The night should be informative and lively – some join us and raise money for our charity and learn more about yoga!

“I just wanted to say thanks again for organising the Symposium the other week – and thanks to Ben and Jo for doing the talk. I thought it was a really warm and inclusive event. It was a great opportunity to learn more about how the theory and practice of Yoga work together. Even though I haven’t been doing yoga for that long, I thought there was something for everyone – yoga teachers and newbies alike. - Alex”
